For the bulk of the time I’ve been on Facebook, I’ve employed weekly variants of the default avatar proffered by the site rather than my own, lovely puss.
My motivation to do this, week after week, is not shyness, paranoia, nor an attempt to imbue my virtual presence with some type of graphic mystery but rather a personal entertainment; an exercise in visual tomfoolery .
Many of the goofy, little avatars I create are seasonally trotted out on the appropriate occasions (such as the birth or death anniversaries of Frank Zappa – hey, I dutifully recognize all important holidays) but most are just random whimsy. I’m a bit proud of some of them while others … well, we can’t all bat 1000.
In any case, I thought I’d share my pointless, little creations with those of you yet to be sucked into this modern phenomena we call social networking (that’s right: both of you).
I love your avatars. They show more personality and creativity than a portrait.
Thanks! I do feel they express the “me” of me far better than that mass of tissue at the front of my skull that I insist on calling a face. =)
Your face is fine. But it’s difficult to see a personality in flesh form.
