“Just What You Want” is one of a number of new songs that have appeared out of thin air during finger-limbering sessions for far older songs. It also has the distinction of being a song with lyrics. Unfortunately, the key and style of the music coincides with my voice in such a way so as to produce sonic ipecac. Thus this instrumental version.
You’re welcome.
After what was intended as the vocal section comes the big instrumental rave up. Oh, my. Listen to that geezer go, willya?
For the curious (anyone reading this blather is mighty curious, alright) here are the lyrics. If you listen to the main guitar riff you can just about figure out how they’re sposed t’fit in the song.
Mostly. Kinda.
Just What You Want
Well, all the things that you want
are not the thing that you want,
because those things that you want
aren’t so worthy
You see, the things that you want,
the things you covet or flaunt,
the things you think that you want,
are just surface
So, when you get what you want,
you’ll find it’s not all you want
and you’re just straight on back
to the seeking
For all the stuff that you’re sold,
so fun to have and to hold,
it simply doesn’t provide
what you’re needing
You will never find the thing
that’s just what you want
When you look outside you see
so many things, so many things
When all the things that you want
are not the things that you want,
it’s ‘cause the things that you want
aren’t worth wanting
So, when you get what you want,
you’ll find it’s not all you want
An endless cycle that’s
leaving you hungry
You will never find the thing
that’s just what you want
That’s because inside you have
an empty place, a hollow space

Da Meanin’ Behin’ da Woids
Okay, so it’s about as subtle as a shingle hammer to the duodenum.
Perhaps I can attenuate the overt didacticism by revealing my painful awareness of a not so big secret: I am covetous and a collector both. Oh, yes siree Bob. I should say, indeed.
In fact, the kernel of the lyrics sprang not from considered thought but just the the tip of my subconscious’ tongue. Maybe the target of these lyrics is aimed more inward than out, eh?
The Video
I had a really good time putting the video together, having just begun to investigate what all I can do with this software. For those who’ve never hallucinated, well … now you have.
For a short while I considered having the lyrics appear on the screen in place of my (wretched) voice. That seemed overly difficult for little gain, however, especially with my pc crashing every two minutes.
I need to upgrade this computer.
