    i have never seen more pigs that when i worked at the vail police department. every officer had a ridiculous collection of pigs on their desk – from ceramic, to plush, to gaudy, cartoony, and everything in between. i’m sure any of them would pay money for that adorable find.

    No no no no no – please feel free to say what you will! The revelation was quite welcome. I had only imagined that something like this would be an insult to peace officers and, knowing that many are doing the job out of a commendable idealism, had mixed feelings. Discovering that many of them have taken the epithet as their own is very interesting, not at all unlike how the otherwise offensive term “nigger” has been turned into an expression of bonhomie by a certain percentage of people of color. Fascinating!
