As for your suggestion for reading material… you ever get into Paul Bowles? High recommended. His most famous work is The Sheltering Sky (great), but that’s not the only one to check out. Most of his work is set in North Africa. Author, traveler, musicologist, and composer.
Heard of him, never read him; I’ll have to check him out. Also, I’ve been hearing a lot of good stuff about Chuck Palahniuk AND I’ve been meaning to read John Kennedy Toole’s “A Confederacy of Dunces” – problem solved. Here’s to hoping the local used bookshop has some of these …
