\nYou never stop and
\nthough I love you greatly
\nit seems that it’s always
\nwhat have I done with you lately?
\nYou’re just not content
\nto take the backseat
\nyou think that your words will
\nbring the crowds to their feet
\nAll those damn puns and
\nthose strange correlations
\nYou wake me at night
\nYou challenge my patience
\nThe things that you think
\nit’s from my mouth they must tumble
\nthus I take the blame
\nall the stares and the grumbles
\nwhile you sit back smiling
\njust watching the fray
\nready with 10 more
\ndumb things you could say
\nbut I ask you now: stop
\nand think, have you ever
\nconsidered that maybe
\nyou’re just not that damn clever?
\nAnd what of this urgency
\nto do all that you want
\nThis makes not an artist
\nbut a dilettante!
\nNow painting, now writing
\nnow sculpting or music
\nis no urge weak enough
\nfor you to refuse it?
\nAlways pushing away
\nthose I’d have in my life
\nyour jealousy reigns
\nover me like a wife
\nwho feels left alone
\nabandoned, untested
\nYou’re never content
\nbut prowling and restless
\nand should you feel slighted
\nif I’ve done not enough
\nyou pull me to darkness
\ndown low, sad and gruff
\nwhere compliments sour
\nand joy turns to regret
\nlocked in self loathing’s
\ndeep, damp oubliette
\nSo I drown you in brown
\nI mute you with green
\nand distract you with
\nall sorts of things in between
\nto silence the pull
\nof your gravity well
\nthat, dare I ignore
\nit will drag me to hell
\nand back again kicking
\nthose black moods so deep
\nI love you, my friend
