In the spring of 2008 I saw the handwriting on the wall for my decaying marriage; it was not long for this world and I knew, after a decade of living quite comfortably, of buying music, books, and toys – oh, yes: lovely, expensive, new and vintage Japanese toys – and not worrying abou the debt I was wracking up doing so, that the impending divorce meant a major lifestyle change for myself.<\/p>\n
From thence was born the concept of my blog (and maybe a book): The Necessary Year – 365 Days of Fiscal Restraint ~June 1st, 2008 to May 31st, 2009 ~<\/p>\n

Not only was I hoping to live within my means but also to discover, with the help of others both in my life and via the blog, to understand just what necessity was.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately for the project, my divorce coincided with the collapse of the economy and I found myself not only single but unemployed: suddenly my pet project was a stinking reality and the one-two punch of the situation proved too stressful for me to continue. I ditched the blog and it’s pretense of survival and buckled down for the real thing.<\/p>\n
Now, some three years later, I felt the urge to revive the old pages and comments in the blog that followed and – who knows? – now maybe I’ll get back to trying my hand at The Necessary Year?<\/p>\n
