It came about as a personal challenge to write a song based around the typical pop form. I closed my eyes, threw a dart, and hit a video of &#8220;Pretend We&#8217;re Dead&#8221; by L7. This was my (very) loose template.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve posted the lyrics here <a href=\"https:\/\/coreyshead.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/29\/wrote-a-song\/\">before<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Wrote A Song lyrics<\/h2>\n<p>I wrote a song<br \/>\nit isn\u2019t very good<br \/>\nI couldn\u2019t find a rhyme<br \/>\nfor every wood<br \/>\nI cannot play it<br \/>\nlike I oughta should but<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a song<br \/>\nI wrote a song, man!<br \/>\nI wrote a song,<br \/>\na really real song!<\/p>\n<p>My song has lyrics and<br \/>\nright around 3 chords<br \/>\nI didn\u2019t try that hard<br \/>\nwon\u2019t win no awards<br \/>\nVerse chorus verse, man<br \/>\nI\u2019m getting bored &#8211; but<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a song,<br \/>\nI wrote a song, yeah!<br \/>\nI wrote a song,<br \/>\na total killer song!<\/p>\n<p>(solo\/bridge section)<\/p>\n<p>Some other words<br \/>\nwould probly fit in here<br \/>\nbut I\u2019m just thinking<br \/>\nhow I want a beer<br \/>\nsomething something<br \/>\nsomething something beer, yeah<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a song<br \/>\nI wrote a song, man!<br \/>\nI wrote a song,<br \/>\nmaybe a hit song!<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a song<br \/>\nI wrote a song, man!<br \/>\nI wrote a song,<br \/>\na really great song!<\/p>\n<p>I wrote a song<br \/>\nI wrote a song, yo!<br \/>\nI wrote a song<br \/>\nYeah-yeah a song!<br \/>\n(repeat until someone throws a boot)<\/p>\n<p>cae &#8211; 2\/26\/2016<\/p>\n<h2>Aftermath<\/h2>\n<p>Once the lyrics were written and I&#8217;d played it out a couple of times as a chuckle, I pretty much forgot about the song. I never really intended to produce it. Not really.<\/p>\n<p>Then I was working on the &#8220;Bopped Out Steel Pluckers Havin&#8217; A Bash&#8221; model kit from Hawk Model Company and I realized the song would be perfect for the updated, punk version of them I was doing.<\/p>\n<p>The theme I was working with was rural punks with banjo, acoustic guitar, and a serious DIY attitude. Consequently, I wanted my song to have some funky drum machine action. <\/p>\n<p>Drum machines are my curse. Not only do I find working with them clunky and unmusical but once I do get going, I can tumble down a rabbit hole of the possibilities they offer. The drums in the instrumental version of &#8220;Wrote A Song&#8221; display that aplenty.<\/p>\n<p>I eventually created a much simpler and more traditional drum track for the model version of the song. This version was set aside as an amusing anecdote. Running across it while exploring my working archives, I decided what the heck? <\/p>\n<p>This version is a real anomaly yet, in some ways, is tamer than what I ended up with for the model. I&#8217;m eager to release that one as well but want to finish the model, first.
